Hammerwood Park
General Information
Built in 1792 as a Temple of Apollo in romantic parkland, this was the first work of Benjamin Latrobe who was responsible for the Capitol and the
porticos of the White House Washington D.C.. Owned by Led Zeppelin in the 1970s, the present owner has rescued it and restored it from
dereliction. Guided tours by the family take you through almost the whole house and make a most interesting afternoon.
Bed and breakfast facilities are available and the house provides a good base for visiting other local historic houses.
Afternoon teas are also available. Good golfing and riding facilities can be found nearby.
Nearby is the Ashdown Forest and many other historic houses open to the public. There are many local traditional inns serving good food en
route to Royal Tunbridge Wells, or even Gatwick Airport.
